Guardia Civil Boat Runs Aground January 12, 2008
Posted by NewsMan in : News , add a commentThe main function of the Guardia Civil boat, Rio Palma, is dealing with illegal immigrants who arrive here in Tenerife by boat and controlling drugs trafficking. This is a fast twin hulled 30m boat which if the captain puts his foot down you can hear the roar of the twin diesels coming from miles away. Many of you who have dived with us will have seen this boat either passing the harbour front or when we have been on dive sites.
Well not any more or at least not for a while to come…..On the evening of 9th Jan it ran aground between the wreck of the Condesito and the wreck of the Meridian. It was only a very short distance from the shore.
So it was low tide, our maximum tidal range is just over two meters. This boat is equipped with state of the art navigation systems, GPS, Sonar, Radar etc etc how it managed to run aground is the the subject of some fairly heated discussions as you can imagine. Originally they were saying that the boat was beyond repair but they have finally managed to refloat it and tow it away.
The Rio Palma has now been towed to Santa Cruz and I am being told that they hope to have it back in service in August, they didn’t say which year though! The fate of the crew on the other hand would seem almost certain well it would be if this happened any where else in the world, but then again this is Tenerife.
Nick and Tania January 7, 2008
Posted by TheBoss in : Customers , add a commentWhile it seems that the whole of the UK is coming down with the pox of one kind or another Nick and Tania slid over here for some diving. The weather has been superb and so has the diving although the company left a little to be desired….
Both Tania and Nick are returning customers. One of Tania’s requests was Angel Sharks. I think we saw them on just about every dive. Normaly they bury themselves in the sand the pickie above was one free swimming over rock at the caves at Palm-Mar.
