Females are more promiscuous-Seahorses that is ! August 29, 2006
Posted by tenerifescuba in : Aquatic Wildlife Tenerife , add a commentThe sex life of the female seahorse is being investigated in a research project under way at a sea life centre.
The spotlight is on tropical seahorses at Great Yarmouth Sea-Life Centre as scientists examine whether females are more promiscuous than males.
The seahorses have been fitted with tiny coloured necklaces so researchers can see who is pairing up.
It had been thought seahorses mated for life but early results show the females being more promiscuous.
Seahorses at the centre mate frequently and researchers have enlisted the help of visitors to tell them which coloured tags are pairing up, giving a date and time.
The survey will then be added to eight others taking place across Europe.
Terri Harris, one of the researchers, said: “Early results are showing us that the males stay faithful to one female.
“However the females may have more than one male partner so they are the ones who are more likely to stray.”
Fire in Las Galletas !! August 26, 2006
Posted by andylovie in : News , 1 comment so farHealth and Safety is interesting at times here in Tenerife. Coming back to the dive centre two months ago we were greeted with plumes of black smoke at the end of the road. Both customers and ourselves realised this was really close to the dive centre!
It turned out that the building next to ours was being used to store paint and paint thinners…The fire started due to some idiot deciding that “lets do some welding”
Buildings close by had to be evacuated and the main road closed. The fire chief was less than impressed to say the least…

Posted by andylovie in : Aquatic Wildlife Tenerife , 1 comment so far2 mins outside Las Galletas Harbour there is the dive site “Los Chuchos” the Stingrays. For a number of years there was a resident turtle unfortunatley it died a couple of years ago. Over the last couple of weeks we have been lucky enough to have a turtle come back to the dive site. Two customers, Franck and Christine Doguet, here doing their PADI Advanced Open Water course were in the right place at the right time and had a camera!!
