Whale and Dolphin watching now in Las Galletas October 21, 2009

Posted by NewsMan in : News , 1 comment so far

For those of you who don’t know there are permanently resident pods of Pilot whales and Dolphins between here and La Gomera, the next of the Canary Islands if you head west and north a bit.   There are a number of boats which run trips out to see these animals with most of the boats based  in Puerto Colon. With the opening of the  harbour here in Las Galletas the owners of the Muscat have decided to relocate.

Now I will freely admit that I have been a bit anti these trips in the past, partly as Puerto Colon is a bit of a pain to get to from Las Galletas and I’m not into booze cruises, which some operators run them as.

Having said that I’ve changed my mind. The guys on the Muscat know what they are doing and it’s a good way to see these animals and blow off gas at the same time.

Before any of you ask we can’t run the RIB out there to dive with them sorry

If anybody fancies a trip drop let us know as we have negociated special prices for Tenerife Scuba customers.

“Chris what you doing tonite? Come help me with a shoot this evening”  “Okey dokey What we doing?” Film shoots with Andy are always fun, when you work with a professional cameraman with 20 odd years in the bizz you can also learn a thing or two…..asides from that things are always a little off the wall!

Putting it simply Andy from 24-6 Film and Television productions neaded some underwater footage of a female model in a pool and bits of muslin guaze. Last time it was the Surfing Rastefarians this time a professional model.  The production stills here are by Jacques Mezger

Those of you who have dived with us will know the Pink Parrot Resturant on the sea front at Las Galletas.  Well Christmas Day his lord and master was chosen to draw the raffle for a hamper of goodies. Basically the first ticket he picked that went in his mouth was the winner.

The odd bit of rain on Christmas Day also lead to this great Rainbow

..

So following the party and diving in Tenerife six of us made our way out to El Hierro. Neil and Tracey “Yorkshire Tight Wad and Nursey Nursey” along with a friend of theirs Lee and Nick Cickmore, Mark and myself jumped on the ferry for the 2.5 hr journey to El Hierro.

Now El Hierro used to be the most westerly point of the known world, La Restinga which is the most southernly point on the island is home to a couple of hundred people and that’s it. Or a ” One horse town” as Mark described it.

The diving as usual was superb high lights include free swimming globe fish, 2.5m camera friendly grouper, tuna and a shoal of Chopas. (Black fish 1/2 m long 15+kg in weight each)
